Alliance Française and the French-American Heritage Foundation of Minnesota present the reception of author Joe Amato on Friday, Feb 24 2017 in la Grande Salle.

Discussion: Paths and Roads to Becoming French, and a Book-Loving Métis. (In English) $10 Admission.


Becoming French is the topic of Professor Amato’s talk.

He will trace his own three paths to becoming French:

How as a young man, studies took him to the Université of Laval in Québec where he learned to write about French culture; how as mid-life researcher he discovered his own Acadian roots at Port Royal in 1640; and finally, he takes up how he is presently making himself into a Minnesota Métis of the 1850’s with his fictional creation, Buffalo Man.

Come explore your own paths to becoming French through birth, language, travel, and books.

From the streets of Dakar, Senegal comes Ghana M’baye and his debut release, Baye Fall Djembe. An endless ocean of rhythm and sound from the coast of West Africa. Ghana will be performing live in la Grande Salle and will teach an hour long all levels Djembé class afterwards. This is a unique opportnity to learn the rythyms and techniques in an exciting session of traditional and contemporary Senegalese drumming!

Webster Workshop

Mois de la Francophonie March 2017, a celebration of Senegal.

Alliance Française present a Workshop with Westber


The writing workshops allow Webster to share his vision of the composition of a hip-hop text. It is an adequate tool to demonstrate to the uninitiated the intellectual and artistic value of this art. These workshops brought him to several schools and Centers Jeunesse du Québec. Presented as part of the French course, he tackles the themes taught during the poetry segment (rhymes, metaphors, comparisons, inspiration methods).
